Eventhough its in color but since the background is the beach, it makes it even better. And the shot of the jewels of the guys wouldn hurt either, hahaha...A must! by: Anonymous On: 2007-06-02

This DVD of the making of the 2005 calendar presents a new look and more outdoor locals that made me thoroughly enjoy this collection of athletic wonders. This presentation is in color (with the exception of a bonus black and white segment that looks back at the 2004 making of), and I think it was a great move. You can see more details to the guys than in the previous making of. Some artistic flair might be missing with the absense of black and white, but there are still some great scenes of beauty here. A lot of the filming takes place outdoors, such as along a beach (sandy buns ahoy), that makes the shoots more visually pleasing. Though, I could have done without some camera work that does seem a bit erratic (zooming in and out). While there is lack of a lot of frontal nudity, I really didnt mind. I wouldnt mind seeing more of these guys, but for me less was just right; the sweet faces and great bodies are what keeps drawing me in. Perhaps because these guys are not professionals, they didnt want for all to be exposed. They still are sportsmen, and probably wanted to go the artistic route, for which the content pleasingly provides. More toned and sculpted guys (along with a couple of what I would call "rugged" ones) are greatly displayed, some returning from the previous installment, and they are breathtaking. My favorite, in Julian Hans (he has such a killer smile), finally gives a great photo shoot thats generally playful with Gregory Mahe that is fun to watch. This kind of playfullness extends to a lot of the photoshoots with more than one athlete; they seem like theyre having fun and just arent forced to pose together. Later when Julian and two other rugby players, Jerome Fillol and Clement Wattier, join him nude on the beach, they play a few moves from rugby. The overall tone of this compilation seems to just be: fun. The only misstep to all this great imagery is, once again, the choice in music. Why they dont go the route of simply orchestrated, I dunno, but better music needs to accompany the great scenes given. If youre a fan of the male form, you need to have this in your collection. Once again, the making of the Dieux du Stade calendar provides content that is a sight to behold and enjoy. by: Anonymous On: 2006-11-23
Out of the 48 models only 4 show full frontal nudity shots. You can look at genitals of another 5 if you use the zoom function creatively.
I thought these people were real men and thus not afraid to show their bodies. I was wrong. The models are extremely shy with few exceptions. Somebody should tell them that they are not judged by the size of the soft members. [...].
I found about 10% of the models attractive. Julian Hans was one of them but sadly he is as shy as most of them.
Alexis Driollet is one of the few good one who shows it all. On: 2006-11-22

Here we see how many ways a naked man can cover his crotch (3, if holding a football-4). And we see them over and over and over again.
I assume the whole series sucks - Ive fast-forwarded through two and thats plenty.
Id rather watch the guys play rugby! On: 2006-11-07

I am very disappointed in Dieux du Stade: Making 2005 Calendar. The filming, photos, and the players for Making 2004 Calendar were so much better. They had lots of great energy in contrast to the extremely boring energy in 2005. Im hesitant to buy Dieus du State: Making 2006 Calendar DVD. I am concerned it might be even more boing than 2005.

These sexy rugby guys have the bods, but they are surprizingly shy infront the cameras - with regards to the safe film camera positions. It must take a lot of guts to bare all infront of about ten crew members, so once there...why not flaunt all. Some of the guys were prepared to let a hand slide from the crotch area, which reveals a bit more than the calender. Mostly they are a shy bunch. The DVD offers a selection for English viewers. There is however no subtitles and barely any dialogue. It would have been interesting to see and hear how the guys experienced the photo shoots. At times the music soundtrack is bit cheesy and irritating. Also there is a lot of repeating in a sequence - to make it appear longer or more seductive perhaps? A great plus would have been to see the final results of the shoots - the Calender!
To sum it up: It is a 3-dimentional version of the calender with cheesy music.
Enjoy! by: ca411 On: 2006-01-10
Yes, all these men are beautiful, but there are (very quick) full frontal shots of perhaps 4 models TOTAL not 48! And it would be a bit of an exaggeration to call them the "Swinging Bratwurst" shots, but they were nice.
95% of the time theres a hand, sock, knee, table, or another stupid model blocking the view. Better titles for these DVDs would be "Viva La Bootie!" or "Rugby Players Know How 2 Handle Zee B@lls".
The models often seem uncomfortable with their nudity. Which is understandable. And some of the poses are provocative.
This version is nicer than the 2004 DVD and its in color not B&W. The 2006 version is apparently even more disappointing than either 2004 or 2005.
The most charming part of this DVD was the number of times the camera saw these guys sneak-a-peek to "check out the competion". Male insecurity running rampant is so sweet.

This years DIEUX is as stunning as the 2004 edition.
The models are photographed in color but somehow it loses something from the beautiful black and white of the previous year.
There is no dialogue, only music underneath the footage.
I miss the interaction between the models and the photographers. This plays more like MTV.
And can you believe someone actually gets paid $ to apply makeup to the butts of these guys, while another strategically places sand on his cheeks.
Talk about loving your job! by: Anonymous On: 2005-10-20
Beautifully filmed which made one feel you were part of the camera team. Such stunning men, perfect features, toned physiques and happy personalities - you want to hug them all!!
Pity there was no sound track, even if the French could not always be understood it would be nice to put a voice to the man.
The black & white sections added a different dimension to the film. by: klubbernyc On: 2005-09-24
After buying the 2004 edition I thought to myself how can the 2005 get any better I mean for the past few months I couldnt get my eyes off the screen every time I watched the 2004 edition. The men in this new 2005 version are gorgeous, the way theyre shot, the poses and overall style has made my mouth water after just 5 minutes of watching it. It seems to me like this series keeps on getting better and better every year. Im planning on buying both as a gift for my friends birthday later this year!
I cannot wait what these beautiful french athletes look like in the 2006 version, Ive allready pre-ordered the calendar! by: Anonymous On: 2005-09-24
I read about (and saw!) Dieux Du Stade in Playgirl magazine this summer. So I decided to pick-up the 2005 DVD. I have really enjoyed it and I have now shown it to most of my friends - a couple of them bought one for themselves too! We laugh and giggle and scream and make "toasts" when our favorite one comes on screen. Such beautiful men! I may have to take a trip to Paris one day just to see the team play!
The DVD is sexy and erotic without being embarrassingly "in your face". After buying the 2005 DVD, I bought the 2004 DVD. This DVD is really great too. I really love how it begins with the music and its filmed in black & white and of course is filled with gorgoeous man after man.
I cant wait to see the 2006 DVD! by: Anonymous On: 2005-08-22
Just like the 2004 Making Of DVD, this one celebrates, appropriately, the male form. The photography is most excellent and not totally focused on the genital area, which many reviewers seem to desire at the expense of all else. I have to say that the DVD shows a broad range of male forms, from very bulky, to thin, to white, to dark, and all well developed. I appreciate that the photographer is celebrating the classical sense of male beauty, something timeless, instead of the trendy, waifish, bleached, stoned look that pervades much work.
If you liked 2004, you need to have 2005 to complement it. They are a bit different, but both are wonderful celebrations. by: invisiboy2001 On: 2005-04-26
While the men featured in this DVD are beautiful, the photography isnt especially sexy, sensual or interesting (but this DVD does have more full frontal than the 2004 one). I recommend the "Making of 2004" DVD over this one. That one is beautiful to behold! On: 2005-04-25

Well there is no doubt that these men are athletic but as far as the filming goes - IT IS CRAP!!!
{{{ I would have to say it must have been done by the directors toddler. }}}
Not only does the camera shift around but the shots are so poorly set up that it reminds me of a boorish and embarassed juvenile. The men are dodging the camera and running around with towels [...] or constantly covering themselves with a rugby ball or their hands like they have some big secret to hide.
>>>>>I found this attempt to be more of a How-to photograph some men brochure and less of the incredible art work that it might have been.<<<<<<<
They had the > subjects,< >the personel< and >the locations <- ---Just not the awareness of the fact that there would be someone that would be forced to endure this fodder !!!

I hope that the producers can make some adjustments to the next production, because I AM VERY DIGUSTED WITH THIS ONE! by: Anonymous On: 2005-02-04
I think this is a five star follow up to the original Dieux Du Stade film. The guys are gorgeous, the settings are colorful and theres enough beefcake in this edition to satisfy everyone! by: okiwtbe On: 2005-01-21
The models in this video mostly have natural good looks with fitness and masculinity that is truly something to see. A few are so good looking that you can hardly believe it. It appears that only a few are completely comfortable being naked in front of the camera but you are watching a manufactured reality so who knows. They appear solo and in groupings of two to five people.
The production quality is another thing all together. Almost all of the shots appear over-exposed (no pun intended). This washes out the colors and flattens the images. The overall effect makes the material as erotic as the evening news. Digital video can look pretty good with the right post-production but it didnt get the treatment here.
The camera work and the transitions between edits is needlessly jumpy. The same snippet of video is often used over and over. Think music video. The music will drive you to the remote. There is really no dialoge so you can just as well provide your own soundtrack.
The hardcover photo book might be a better value.
