1969 skin'eads are the only real skin'eads.     On: 2008-05-27

This book is loverly! No stupid talk about skineads liking punk, Oi! or 2 Tone rubbish. Just football, fighting and reggae music get mentioned. Pure bliss for me, since this is what made skinead part of growing up to so many in Ol Blighty between 1968-1972. Good stuff.
If you are an American skinhead, you may get bored.     On: 2007-09-05

Why? Because its about a young skinhead and his crew in late-60s England. They are MAD about football (soccer) and I honestly cant think of anything more boring than 13 year olds hero worshipping some team playing some sport that never fully entered the American conciseness. I wanted to read about the music, the brawling and the boozing. I got very little of that. However I did keep reading and read it pretty quick - it kept my interest enough to turn the page and I kept thinking Joe Hawkins was on the next page. He wasnt. I was looking for pulp fiction - what I got was a fairly interesting coming of age story.
A Real Cult Classic.     On: 2005-09-29

Im Nik, a skinhead from the east coast. I really enjoyed reading this book. It really reminds of myself in alot of ways of how it is being a very young skinhead. This book also shows how much different things were back then and how they were in a different place. Reading about taking the subway to the football matches and seeing the riots reminds me of taking the T to all the big shows in boston and seeing the fights break out. I always think about how when King went to get his crombie coat and it was to big on him because he had to grow into it, It was just like that for me because they never make those in small sizes. Or puting on a pair of sta-prest and lacing up a pair of doc martens. I think any skinhead could easly relate with this book. I highly recomend it to them.
