This book is tactical - it examines the main offensive/defensive tactical characteristics of the major formations (e.g. 4-4-2, 3-4-3, 4-3-3, 3-5-2, etc) and their variants. Its obviously been translated from Italian so the language is a little bizarre in places - but this doesnt really detract from what is a very good book. The main thing I got from this was a better understanding of the differences between the different formations and the realization that soccer tactics is a huge, huge topic. As the author says, "the strategic objective of this book was to give a study and working plan that will help in the tactical construction of a soccer team. Our teaching aim was to have supplied you with some ideas which can at least be discussed and in which I hope you will find inspiration. Putting you in a position to think and talk about soccer in a different way." It succeeds in its aim. I would recommend this book for any coaches thinking of taking the USSF National A License or the NSCAA Premier Diploma. On: 2007-10-05
