I was asked to help coach my daughters soccer team--a first for both of us. Not knowing where to start, this is what helped me get going. Good material on motivations and drills, etc. Definitely what I needed. On: 2007-10-18

New coaches will learn everything they need to know. In addition to the drills and strategies, youll also learn how to motivate kids, how to deal with their parents, and much more. On: 2006-03-10
This is a must have book for soccer coaches, especially coaches of girls soccer. I also recommend it for coaches of boys since 98% of the material translates over. The book not only details performing specific skills, tactics and team management, but also covers team and individual motivation and correction styles. This is where the book becomes a little more specific to females then males, which is a good thing because there are a lot of male coaches that coach all girl teams, and they need to understand what motivates boys doesnt work with most girls. While boys tend to be motivated by accomplishment, girls are motivated by relationships. Understanding that will be rewarding and help you bond with your players and develop them as a team.
Read this book and you will dramatically improve your coaching! On: 2006-03-09

This book is all it claims to be. Clear, useful, full of great advice and fun training games and drills. Not a book about the author, but a real accent on the girls themselves. Brilliant.
Its been a bible for me for two years and Ive recommended it to all my fellow coaches (who all want to know my secrets!!)

After coaching, reffing, and helping to run leagues for 15+ years I am always on the lookout for ways to keep myself fresh and relevant to the kids I have the pleasure to deal with. If every coach could start with this book the world of soccer would be a funner place. This may not be the only book you ever need as you advance, but the broad range of advice, attitude, basic knowledge, and practical tips make this one a "must have". My only gripe is the title, there is some information specific to girls but so much of it is just plain good I hate to see someone miss it because the only coach or have boys. On: 2001-12-19
This book was absolutely wonderful. I have coached many sports but never soccer until this past year. I read the book after the season and feel ready for the upcoming season. I learned so much about the game tactically and it was easy reading. John knows his subject. Would recommend it for any coach. On: 2001-12-18

I work with a top level youth soccer club as the Girls Director of Coaching. After reading Mr. Dewitts book I feel that he has hit the nail on the head. The advice that he gives, while basic, is just what many new coaches need to start coaching girls soccer. The book covers all aspects of the game while still staying focused on the coaching skills need to work with girls.
