This book was full of energy. As you know this book is a sports book and is very exciting. The book seems as if the author tells the story with play by play action, making sure you dont miss any action. The book is mainly about a boy who plays soccer, but some of his family really wants him to play football. It is his first year of soccer to and he is very good. Thats why it is such a hard decision for him. I recommend this book to middle school kids. The vocabulary isnt hard and its really just a book thats fun to read.

Jabber Halpkins is in the team, the Razorbacks. Throughout the year he and his team play against the Blue Jackets. The team goes through team problems with injuries and people quitting, but they win and beat the toughest team ever and make some new friends. I recommend this book to book worms that like sports.
Soccer Halfback: A Goal Kicking Book

BAM! "The Razorback player kicked the ball and hits Jabber Morris in the chest and knocked the breath out of him" That is just a small portion of the action that happens in "Soccer Halfback".
In the story "Soccer Halfback" this boy named Jabber Morris plays soccer and loves it. Bit the problem is that his dad (who played football) has passed away and now his whole family wants him to give up soccer and switch over to football. Will Jabber destroy all of his dreams to make his family happy?
I thought that "Soccer Halfback") has the so far the best book I have ever read it has action, love, and a lot of feeling. This book keeps you guessing until the very end when all of your questions you might ask yourself while reading get answered.
I think that this book could influence on anyone who has a lot of pressure on them and is someone who wants to make a lot of people happy. Well this is like all the bad things that happens to Jabber in "Soccer Halfback". See most people in this world has parents who wants you to do something you absolutely hate and you have a dream of being a soccer player, dancer, singer etc.
I recommend this book to anyone who plays soccer or like the game or for anyone who has a lot of things of their plate and your parents are pressuring to do something you hate, well this is the book for you.
Do you want to know if Jabber is going to destroy his dreams? You better read this book! You can check this book out at any local library.
Super Soccer Story

Do you like playing soccer? If so you might want to read Soccer Halfback by Matt Christopher. The book is about two brothers, Jabber and Pete. Jabber plays soccer and Pete plays football. Pete loses his wallet and Jabber finds it but Pete thinks he took it! This causes a minor problem. To read about other problems in this story, read this book.

I liked this book because it is really exciting reading about the teams playing each other. On a scale of one to ten I would give this book a nine.

I think Matt Christopherýs purpose for writing this book is to show that team work is special.

This is a book about a boy who is his first year of soccer and
he turns out to be very good at it. The kids name is Jabber and hes in the 8th grade. A couple years ago Jabbers dad died in a car accident. His dad was a very well known football star. He was just started doing well in the pros when he gets hiis by a other car.
HIs brother Pete is follwing in his dads footsteps as a budding star on his high school. So him and his mom think Jabber should also follow in their footsteps. As Pete is budding into a star Jabber is scoring the winning goal in soccer. Jabber and is best friend Moses and stork are the best on the soccer team. Well Jabber is the leading score on the team geting like 3 or 4 goals a game.
Pete loses his wallet and a couple days later Jabber finds it and thers no more money in the wallet and so Jabber thinks that Pete thinks that Jabber took the money to buy his new soccer shoes buyt he didnt really take the money.
Before the next soccer game he goes hangliding with Pete breaks his lag ther goes the football season for Pete
So that gets Jabber thinking about swithching sports.
I did give this book a 5 because its very well written
A Thrilling Book!

I think that the author, Matt Christopher, was really imaginative when he wrote this book. This book kept me in suspense. Jabber, {the main character}was very sad and unhappy at some points in the book, but he was very happy in the beginning and in the end of the book. I wanted to know which soccer team was going to win. This book is filled with fun and excitement! I would really recommend this book for third, fourth, fifth, and sixth graders. It was very hard for me to put Soccer Halfback down, and I dont think that you will be able to put this book down either!

I liked this book because it is full of action, even in the beginning of the book! He also describes the story well because he maps out the soccer game like your actually there. If you like soccer youll like this book!

I think the best part of this book is the beginning when he starts out with a soccer game and the main character is about to score. The only thing I disliked about this book was that he didnt focus much on the main characters life much other than soccer and family problems. Overall, I would say this is one of my favorite books!

I think the best thing he did in this book was set the setting well so you think you are actually there in the book. He also lets you get a mental picture of what tha characers look like i real life. I think this is an outstanding book!

Soccer Halfback by Matt Christopher     On: 2001-12-16

Great, but in the middle plot gets dull.

Jabber Morris chooses soccer as a sport to play, but his brother, uncle, mother, sister and the town think he should play football. Jabber likes to play soccer, but his family thinks differently. Jabber buys a pair of new soccer shoes, when he does that Pete, his brother, thinks its final that Jabber is going to stick with soccer. Jabber and Pete have the same thinking for one sport and that sport is Hang gliding. But after an accident and his mom talking to him, Jabber rethinks what sport he is going to play for the rest of his life.
The realistic fiction book Matt Christopher wrote was ok, but Matt has wrote better sports books. I liked this book because it is about soccer, my favorite sport, but I disliked the book because it didnt keep me into the book. The book is ok but if you want a really interesting book check out some of the other books Matt Christopher. (by Howard L. in Torrance CA.)

Tough Decision
by: Anonymous    On: 2000-11-06

Jabber Morris is a star soccer player. He lives with his mother, brother, Pete, and sister, Karen. Jabbers father was a star football player for the University of Notre Dame. He dies at a young age. Pete would like Jabber to join him in following in their fathers footsteps. Jabber likes soccer better than football. They do agree upon one passion, hang gliding. They have fun doing this.

The football coach is surprised when Jabber goes out for soccer instead of football. Pete thinks that Jabber should drop soccer and play football. One day something happens in Jabbers family that causes him to face a tough decision. Should he drop soccer and play football? Youll want to find out!

A great read     On: 2000-10-16

Matt Christopher was one of my favorite authors when I was still in grade school and I still look back at his books with great admiration and fondness. Soccer halfback is no exception, it is a wonderfully told story of a young boy named Jabber who, against the wishes of his family, decides to play the sport of soccer instead of following his late fathers football roots as his family wishes him too.

When this book first came out, the game of soccer was about five years away from really exploding onto the U.S. sports scene. Being a soccer player (which was a minority at the time) myself I was constantly searching for books, fact or fictional, that dealt with the game of soccer. There werent many at the time but Matt Christophers _Soccer Halfback_ was a diamond in the rough that not only is a great story but one that taught me a great lesson:

Its okay to break the mold to do something you love even its not seen as popular or you are ridiculed for it at the time. Thank you for the courage Mr. Christopher.

Soccer Halfback

The story I read is called"Soccer Halfback" by Matt Christopher. one of the setting was on a type of sports field like a soccer fieeld. the soccer field has two goals, out of bounds lines and a line through the center. The weather was mainly warm but sometimes it got cold for the players. Another setting is on a hilltop. people who flew hang gliders went there. it would usaully be sunny and warm and also sometime very windy. Sometimes so windy that the hang gliders would lose control and maybe crash. Those are the two settings in the soccer halfbak

The main character in the book is Jabber. Jabber is about 13 years old and loves soccer. But his whole family wanted him to play football like his Dad,Uncle and brother. They wanted him to play football because his dad had a good career at NotreDame in football. Jabbers father died when he was only about five years old. His family would like Jabber to continue with his fathers dreams.

Anther character is Pete. This is Jabbers older brother. Pete plays football and he hang glides. Pete really likes football like his father but he is really trying to get Jabber to like to like the game as much as him. But one day pete was playing touch football with his friend and lost his wallet. It made Pete very mad because he had alot of money in there. He was going to use the money to buy a new pair of football cleats. Do you think hell ever find it? Maybe. A couple of weeks after Pete lost his wallet he got in a bad hang-gliding accident. He was hurt badly, but recovered quickly.

The story is mainly about Jabbers family trying to get him to play football. They want him to play football because his father played it and loved it so they think he should. That gets Jabber all in a ruckus. Now Jabber feels guilty about only wanting to play soccer. The only one who thinks he should stay with soccer besides him is his sister Karen. Will Jabber quit soccer and join football? Read the book and find out. I hope I convinced you to read this book because I really liked it and I think you would too.

Review of Soccer Halfback

I liked this book a lot because it was interesting to read about the soccer games. The Nuggets (the name of one of the teams) played the Razorbacks and they played the Blue Jackets two times. The main character is Jabber. Jabber is really good at soccer; he scores two out of the four goals in one game. It is sad when Pete, Uncle Joe and Jabbers mom and dad say that he should play football because his dad was a football star. You will like this book if you like sports.
I thought it was a pretty good book
by: Anonymous    On: 1999-10-07

The book was about this kid that played soccer at halfback for the nuggets a school team. His mom and his siblings want him to play football because his dad played for Notre Dame and was a great player at Notre Dame. I thought the book was a very good book to read if you like sports because I do and it was a good book.
I have to admit, this book was good, but a little cheesy.

Ok. Its about a kid that likes soccer and he plays halfback. His mom and siblings want him to go for football (A little cheesy.) because that was his father played before his recent death. The ending is when his mom says shell back some hamburgers with some other junk and ketchup. I though that was cheesy.
