Mia Hamm Tips
by: Anonymous    On: 2007-02-12

"Go for the Goal" is about Mia Hamm, one of the best soccer players in the world and about her struggles, difficulties, and accomplishments in her life. She helped lead the womens world cup team to a victory in 1999. She has faith that every one that dreams about being a soccer star, go for it! This is one of my favorate books not only because I play soccer competitively but because she has showed me some techniques and strategies she used to be an amazing soccer player. This book is interesting and factual about Mia life and could help change your idea about soccer.

Not that good     On: 2004-07-19

Personally, I found this really boring. Im not really sure what I just read. I was kind of hoping that thered be some personal insight because Mia Hamm is a facsinating person. When I finished I really wasnt inspired, or informed, or anything. I was just bored. There are better books out there, this one isnt really worth your time.
Go For the Gloat     On: 2003-07-03

This book was very disappointing. It is defintely not any type of guide for winning in soccer or life. I really felt this was really more about Mia gloating about how good she is rather than how she got there or sharing any insight into what it takes to win. It is not hard to win in soccer if you are surrounded by all those good players and she didnt really share any personal insight other than she was a military brat.

I cant say I would be inspired by this book either... this is not an autobiography, its not a guide to how to play good soccer, its more about how many times she can take credit for a goal or assist....

Numba 1 Baller in the world!!!

This book is about Mia Hamm and her accomplishments throughout her life. The main character is Mia Hamm and at the end it talks about her U.S.A. team and players. Mia Hamm did have many adventures before becoming what she is today. Like working hard and not letting anything break her concentration. Mia also went through many obstacles in her life to become what she wanted to be, A Professional Soccer Player. Obstacles contain trying to show her ability and skill by playing against players older than her, getting into the University of North Carolina, and getting accepted by the U.S.A. coach. My favorite character is Mia, because to me she is the best soccer player, a good role model for kids, and the number one goal scorer! I can relate Mia Hamm. She started playing soccer when she was very little and she kept forcing herslef to become the best. I am doing the same thing, because I started playing when I was vety little, and I want to become the best. I look up to Mia. I also feel some of the things that Mia did. I felt that I couldnt do cetain things and that I was scared of playing against older girls than me.

I really love this book a lot. The whole book was my favorite. In other words every single part of this book I loved!

I would highly recommend this book, because it is very interesting, and it incourages soccer players to never give up on their dream. A type of person that would realy like this book would be of course A SOCCER PLAYER!!!

Go For The Goal     On: 2001-10-12

This is an inspiring book, writen by one of the most famous women athletes of today. Mia Hamm wrote this book intending to help out young soccer players and give them great advice. She also including some of her teammates from the U.S. National Soccer Team, including Kristine Lilly, Michelle Akers and Tisha Venturini. This book gives you tips on drills to do during practice and also some tips on how to play with heart and dedication. This is a very easy to read book. She wrote it knowing that younger children would read it. In the back of the book there is a glossary of terminology used throughout the book the reader may not know. Myself growing up Ive played soccer since I can remember. This book has helped me a lot throughout the process of organizing an all-girls soccer team at my school. I would greatly encourage any girl (or boy) who just started playing soccer or who is a veteran of the game to pick up a copy of this book and read it!
The Most Inspiring book for teenage girls     On: 2000-11-23

This book was the most inspiring book I have ever read. It gives you a mind set for when your on the field your ON the field. And when youre ready to get on there youve got to have your game face on. Me, being an ODP player and my soccer team won the state cup last year and our team was less than a year old, then went to regionals and were undefeated, this book taught me a lot on how to be a better teammate. It taught me to get on that field and practice sprints even with my speed that ive been gifted with because people will catch up, you must take risks to be and winner.
How to be successful in anything, not just soccer.     On: 2000-10-16

Ms. Hamm has written a lucid, easy reading book that tells what it takes to become the best you can be at soccer. Not only will the attitudes, and work ethic described in this book benefit prospective soccer players, her attitudes and outlook should help anyone to be their best in whatever they want to do. I would have liked more insight into the personalities of the National Soccer Team players but the ones that are included are great. Her dedication and team spirit certainly explain why Ms. Hamm is the Queen Of Champions. This book is not just for little girls or women. The same ideas should work for the opposite sex just as well. The B.L. (bottom line) is this book is good reading. She did a good job of storytelling. My respect for this superstar went up even higher after reading the book.
Mia Hamm

About reaching your goals - in sports and in life...
by: Anonymous    On: 2000-07-27

This book is focused toward the teenaged girls who are soccer fans and it does very well to communicate to them. It doesnt use overly complex vocabulary and avoids vague references to soccer history. You can get the message of this book without any knowledge of soccer. Its about the hard work, dedication and teamwork it takes to be a champion - both on and off the field. The downside, as is often the case with Hamm, is that it doesnt touch on her personal life much - the trials she faced as a teen coming up through the National Team program, losing her brother to disease, her marriage to a Marine pilot. It was also written prior to the Womens World Cup and doesnt discuss the sudden celebrity that the womens team achieved in mainstream America after winning the tournament.
Very Inspirational!     On: 2000-07-21

This is an incredibly inspiring book for fans of the USWNT and womens soccer to read. If ya love Mia, or any of the team, this is the book for you. I play soccer at a pretty high level, and even though the technical tips arent high, the mentality and psychological aspects mentioned by Hamm always help, and they really inspired and re-motivated me, mostly, b/c they were coming from Mia Hamm. But dont expect this to be a training book, b/c its not meant to be. Its a book for Mia fans, USWNT fans, and soccer players with dreams. And yes, if you let it, this book can help guide you to winning in soccer and in life. I mean, youre following Mia, so its not like youre gonna go wrong!

Great Book
by: Anonymous    On: 2000-03-20

I would reccomend this book for anyone that likes Mia Hamm or soccer. It gives background info about Mia, stories from her career, how to perform certain skills, and drills to perfect them. It also has little suggestions from other teammates. I love this book!
The title is misleading - not as good as I had expected     On: 2000-03-12

As a soccer coach of girls/young women, and a State referee I was disappointed in this book. I have followed womens soccer for some time now, and it goes without question that Mia Hamm is one of the worlds top players. However, if you are looking for an autobiography of Mia, this is not the book. Further, the techniques mentioned are good, but most of them are for beginning players. I, personally, did not find this book to be " a champions guide to winning in soccer and life." I enjoyed the book, but I guess that I was expecting more, or something different. The book has more " ups " than " downs " but overall I was disappointed. Mia tends to be a private person, which is understandable. Id like her to write a more personal autobiography someday because I believe that she has a story to tell, which would be more engaging than this book.

Inspiring!     On: 2000-01-17

This was a great book for those of you who like to play soccer. It mainly talks about technique and skill for the game but still talks about the National Team and there sporstmanship towards each other. I find this team inspiring! Watching WOMEN play and win like that make you shiver. This just goes to show you that anything is possble if you work hard enough at it! So this book was great and I recommed it to everone!

Mia Hamm-SoccerPlayer/Writer     On: 1999-12-26

Mia Hamms book, "Goal For The Goal," is the best book I have read. It helps all soccer players improve their game, by showing training drills and it has great advice that motivates players. Mia Hamm and the rest of the Womens National team are my role models. Mia Hamm, to me wrote this book perfectly, and anyone who wants to play soccer or plays soccer already should read this book. It will inspire you to do so much more than you already can do.
I really loved this book and I will work to be a pro.
by: Anonymous    On: 1999-11-16

She gives you a good idea on the game and how to win. She has been through some tough times and she is now telling you how you can survive those hard times. I am taking her advise and training to help me become a better soccer player, because my dream in life is to be a professional soccer player. I had this dream... almost half of my life. I want to thank Mia for writting this book and for helping me learn the best part of soccer is the emotions.
great read for teens and inspiring soccer stars
by: Anonymous    On: 1999-10-04

This is an awesome book that combines training ideas and facts about Mia perfectly. The pictures are awesome and if you like Mia (who doesnt) I definetly recommend the book.
Not as good as I expected
by: Anonymous    On: 1999-09-23

I was a little disappointed to learn, after starting the book, that it is really geared for kids/teens. (It makes reference to "your parents" letting you watch soccer on TV.) I would have liked to know that before I bought it. Also, she really seems to stress the importance of mastering specific skills and doing repetitious drills at a very young age. As the coach of a 9-year-old girls team, I really believe that stressing drills, albeit to develop important skills, at this point in their development would bore them and potentially drive their interests elsewhere. For nine year olds, the most important thing is to keep it fun, so they keep coming back. After reading all the other glowing reviews, I guess I expected a little more.
THE BEST BOOK IN THE WORLD!!
by: Anonymous    On: 1999-08-25

I LOVE THIS BOOK EVERYONE SHOULD BUY IT BECAUSE IT IS JUST SO GREA
I am buying this book for my entire U-12 girls soccer team.!     On: 1999-08-22

Girls dont have the role-models that boys do. As a U-11 girls coach I asked the girls to tell me about their sports heros (soccer or otherwise). Most had none. Pose the same question to eleven-year-old boys, and hear a VERY different answer. This fall we are using it as our team bible. This kind of reading could motivate a young girl for life. It teaches to strive for greatness in all that you do, and all in the conext of a young girl who grows to be a fierce competitor and wonderful person.
This book shows just how humble Mia Hamm is! IT'S AWESOME!!
by: Anonymous    On: 1999-08-20

I think this is a MUST read for anybody, in soccer or not. It not only gives great tips on how to improve your soccer game, but it shows just how humble a person Mia is. You get all the aspects of her life and career with an open, relaxed feeling. I read this book in less than a day, I couldnt put it down!!
VERY inspirational, Mia Hamm is an awesome role model.
by: Anonymous    On: 1999-08-11

This book was VERY inspirational and teaches you everything you need to know about soccer. Mia Hamm is my role model and I look up to her. She wrote a very good book, and I think every soccer player should read it.
MIA HAMM HAS WRITTEN ONE OUTSTANDING BOOK!
by: Anonymous    On: 1999-08-08

FANTASTIC! This book gives you great things to strive for in life. In soccer, it gives you terrific drills and ways to improve your game. This book was a joy to read, and Mia Hamm sure knows what shes talking about! (I would never doubt her anyway!) AWESOME PICTURES!!!
Great Training Tips
by: Anonymous    On: 1999-07-27

Go for the Goal has a wealth of tips about training and motivation. But Mia is a very private person and I found myself wishing shed shared more of her inspirational life. A great complent to this book is the real-life story of a championship girls team, The Beautiful Game. Read Mias book to help you on the field and The Beautiful Game for your heart.

Mia Hamm did an excellent job.
An excellent source for a soccer player-She's done it all!
by: Anonymous    On: 1999-06-24

Its a great book for young players who are looking to eventually make the national team. It explores every aspect of the game, but also adds a personal side to it about her own experience in the game. She makes it come alive and enjoyable for players all across America.
An inspiring book every young athlete should read
by: Anonymous    On: 1999-06-09

Mia Hamm proves why shes one of the best role models out there for young women. Her book offers instruction on everything from dribbling a soccer ball to adopting the proper winning attitude. Her anecdotes and advice are nothing short of inspirational.
Mia Hamm gives advice for on and off the field
by: Anonymous    On: 1999-06-08

Mia Hamm is a great role model for kids, and in this book, she shows her star qualities without the boastfullness of most players. She gives vital advice for on and off the field, and instructs about the most important techniques that should be used on the field. I would recomend this book to anyone who is looking for a role model, or advice
The Book Rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The book tells alot about her life on the soccer field and off the soccer field!!!!!!It is good for all ages and is a GREAT Bio.
Perfect for encouraging young soccer stars
by: Anonymous    On: 1999-05-29

This book is great if you want to encourage young people, especially girls, to reach for the stars and go for their goals. I play soccer and the biggest wish I could have would be to play with the U.S. Womens National team. Of course, I totally doubt Ill ever get that chance, but hey, I can dream, cant I?
Great on many levels
by: Anonymous    On: 1999-05-27

Even if it were just an instructional book on how one should really learn to play the game, this book would be well worth it. But then there are also all of the insights from an exceptional player, promoter of expanding womens roles in sports and just an overall incredibly inspiring person. A true winner!
Female soccer fans have a winning book!!!
by: Anonymous    On: 1999-05-27

Soccer fans in general will love this book, but women, especially young women, will find it inspirational!!!
This book is awesome, inspirational, and even made me cry.
by: Anonymous    On: 1999-05-26

I can remember growing up in the era before Title IX, when girls played with hula hoops during physical ed. while the boys wrestled. I always harbored a secret desire to cast my hoop away and join the boys, who seemed to be having much more fun.

Weve come a long way since then and Mia Hamm is the perfect example of how women athletes will suceed if you only give them half a chance.

I bought the book for my son. He loves Mia as much as I do.

Great guide for girls!
by: Anonymous    On: 1999-05-26

An editor friend of mine passed an early copy of this book to me. I wish there were more books like these when I was a girl (just fifteen years ago!). I played soccer in Alabama and was the only girl in the entire 10-11 year-old league. Growing up,if I had a role model like Mia Hamm, perhaps I would have stuck with the game and thus been a bit gutsier in the games I play today.
Go for the Goal scores big!
by: Anonymous    On: 1999-05-26

Go for the Goal is one of the finest books Ive read this year. At a time when professional sports is dominated by over-paid, individualistic celebrities, Mia is a breath of fresh air. The message of this book goes way beyond the soccer field. Im giving a copy of the book to each of my employees and recomend it to anyone wanting to instill the values of teamwork and honor in their employees, their children or themselves.
Excellent for all sports fans, not just soccer fans
by: Anonymous    On: 1999-05-26

I loved the book, and my little girls loved the passages I read aloud to them. After reading the book, I was amazed at how little I had previously known about the fascinating career Mia has had. Shes not only an elite athlete but also a great role-model for athletes, both male and female.
